Mindfulness mentoring (via zoom or over the phone)

Why take mindfulness mentoring with us?

Private mindfulness mentoring provides a safe, confidential and supportive space for an individual (or small group of two) to explore formal and informal mindfulness training with an experienced teacher. It is offered to complete beginners, experienced practitioners and everyone in-between!

Lucia offers mindfulness or/ and yoga mentoring on a 1:1 or small group basis, usually taken over zoom. She combines 17 years’ wide-ranging meditation and mindful yoga practice and teaching experience to offer a rounded, in-depth and thoughtful approach that can integrate static meditation with gentle movement and relaxation practices.

Lucia’s background includes rigorous postgraduate mindfulness teacher training at Bangor University and with Breathworks. She has trained with the Yoga Nidra Network to deliver yoga nidra (guided relaxation). She is also a Level 3 counselling student, having completed accredited Level 2 training with the highly regarded London School of Counselling in 2024, enabling her to bring in the counselling skills of empathy, non-judgement and mindful listening to sessions. She is a long-time yoga studio owner and co-founder of Satvada Retreats.

Why dive into mindfulness and mentoring?

Many people turn to mindfulness training as a way to manage feelings of stress, anxiety or low mood, or/and to learn how to work with difficult repetitive thoughts. As mindfulness goes hand-in-hand with self-compassion the training can also be very helpful in this way. It can be that taking a group course does not fit in working or childcare hours; some people just prefer to work 1:1 with the personal contact and tailoring this brings.

This form of mentoring can introduce a student to mindfulness or help them continue an existing formal practice - for example after finishing an eight-week course - facilitating greater motivation and creativity in practice. It can also help guide a student into weaving all-important aspects of informal practice into everyday life: for example, if there is very little time or motivation for static seated practice, other avenues can be explored: integrating mindful movement into the day; taking a mindful walk; gently investigating how we are in relationship with thoughts and feelings from a mindfulness perspective.

How specifically can mentoring help?

In summary, some applications of mentoring include:

  • Support in starting a mindfulness practice including providing guided home practice and suggesting other tools for formal practice.

  • Support in maintaining an existing practice, for example to gain motivation after taking a structured course or for boosting motivation.

  • Guidance in investigating different forms of mindfulness such as gentle mindful movement and mindful walking - and integrating this into everyday life. Seated mindfulness practice is not for everyone, for example if we are experiencing feelings of anxiety it can be more helpful to explore a movement-based approach.

  • Exploring how mindfulness and self-compassion can help us navigate difficult thoughts and emotions.

  • Explore how cultivating kindness into our practice and lives can help create space and softness in how we are in relationship to our thoughts and feelings.

  • Aspects of running a yoga or meditation business, for example how beginning students can approach starting up classes or a studio.

The approach differs from therapy due to its central focus on mindfulness practice rather than psychological wellbeing. If it is thought that counselling would be a more appropriate approach, or could work well alongside mindfulness mentoring, this will be discussed in the initial session and suggestions will be made.

It is not usually appropriate to explore mindfulness practice if you are experiencing severe anxiety or depression or have recently (within 6 months) experienced a major life event such as a bereavement.
