Small group Yoga for Complete Beginners course
Join us for another inclusive and expertly led small group (max ten students) Yoga for Complete Beginners course at Moulsham Mill.
We created this foundation course after personally having had tricky experiences of fast-paced, athletic yoga classes where there was little chance to experience elements of the yoga tradition such as relaxation and meditation - and class sizes of 25 upwards.
Motivated by these experiences, we designed this four-week foundation course for anyone looking for a small group (eight-to-ten), genuinely accessible, rounded introduction to yoga, or as a refresher to return to practice.
Our Autumn 2024 course will be led by Libby Hoyte, whose approach is highly inclusive, friendly and sensitive. Libby teaches from many years of her own yoga practice.
Course intention
We are passionate that yoga is not only for the young and flexible, regardless of how it can be presented at times. We also feel it is crucial to present yoga in a way that is true to its ancient origins: as an awareness practice rather than as pure exercise.
A balanced approach
In these four-week courses we teach the fundamentals of a balanced yoga practice - postures, breathworks, meditation, relaxation - in an inclusive way so that most people can benefit.
It is our intention that, by the end of the course, you will have practiced many core yoga postures whilst having experienced the calming, centering benefits of other pivotal aspects of yoga such as relaxation and meditation.
We hope you will have the confidence to join a regular beginners' class, and, most importantly, an overwhelmingly positive experience of yoga.
Please note: you should be able to get on and off the floor easily.
Class structure
Every class will contain elements a rounded yoga practice:
Physical postures (known as asana) - working to strengthen and tone the body, and boost safe mobility.
Meditation - yoga is an ancient form of meditation. By including simple, accessible mindfulness techniques, often enjoyed lying down, we invite the mind into a less reactive, calmer state.
Breathwork (known as pranayama) - how we can use simple breath practices to boost mood and re-balance the nervous system
Relaxation - in our culture of permanent busyness, most of us have forgotten how to relax. We spend time on this incredibly important art.
