Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR): gold standard eight-week mindfulness course

β€œThank you very much for your MBSR course. I found it to be really beneficial and am missing it already πŸ™‚. Your warm, friendly and calming way of running the course was fantastic and I felt the live stream worked really well.””
— Sarah Newbury - spring 2021

Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) is one of the two internationally taught eight-week mindfulness courses, with a strong scientific evidence base. It provides students with powerful life skills and techniques to manage stress, boost wellbeing and increase awareness.

Over the eight weeks, and integral half-day retreat, all of which will be live streamed, we learn core mindfulness practices to lower stress, increase awareness and cultivate resilience.

No previous experience of meditation is required, and you do not have to be a certain type of person to benefit. All that's required is an openness to the process and to be in a position to commit to most of the eight sessions (plus half-day retreat) and home practice: around 30 minutes' daily meditation practice.

Please read the 'is this for me?' information box on the right-hand side for further pointers as to whether this course is for you.

The core skills learnt on MBSR are as follows:

  • Clearer understanding of stress triggers, our habitual responses and how to manage stress

  • Increased self-awareness of mind and body; awareness of managing thoughts and understanding the link between thoughts and emotions

  • Increased self-compassion and better understanding of how to take care of yourself

  • Tools to start and maintain a regular meditation practice, and all the benefits this brings

  • Side-benefits of the mindful movement may include an increase in strength and flexibility

Course structure

The course is structured as follows:

  • eight two-hour live streamed (via zoom) sessions

  • a half-day retreat, also live streamed

  • comprehensive weekly handouts

  • specially recorded audio recordings for home meditations and practices

β€œI wanted to say how much I enjoyed YATM’s live streamed MBSR. It was great to practice different techniques, learn about the history of mindfulness, and have our group discussions. It ensured I give myself some β€˜me’ time and I certainly feel less stressed with everyday things! Thank you so much! ”
— Sarah Brundle

I had my doubts, especially around the virtual retreat, but enjoyed it very much looked forward to classes each week, with guided practices in between.”
— Carol Wisher, MBSR participant, spring 2020
